Enfin la Thaïlande ! Mel attendait beaucoup ce pays alors que Léa avait peur que tout soit bondé de touristes. Finalement, pouvoir parcourir ce pays qui accueille chaque année plus de 35 millions de touristes avec notre chère maison roulante nous a comblé !
Le passage à la frontière s'est passé sans encombre. Depuis quelques mois, il est écrit dans la loi que les véhicules étrangers n'ont pas le droit de rentrer en Thaïlande mais, après rempli les formulaires habituels et fait faire un papier d'importation de véhicule temporaire (TIP) d'un mois à renouveler gratuitement nous avons pu passer tranquillement ! Nous nous sommes arrêtés dans un restaurant avant de reprendre la route. Pour nous, l'idée était de remonter assez vite dans le nord et pour Adrian et sa famille rejoindre les plages paradisiaques de la côte ouest.
Notre premier arrêt fut la "mer de nuages", un point de vue dans la région de Yala donnant sur la montagne, accessible par une côte bien hard (on a fini en 1ère!). Il fallait attendre 5h du matin le lendemain pour pouvoir voir ladite mer de nuages et comme le parking n'était vraiment pas très "sexy" nous avons préféré repartir pour atteindre la plage ! C'était vraiment agréable de pouvoir suivre un véhicule pendant un long trajet sans se soucier du GPS ! Arrivés de nuit à notre spot, nous avons du attendre le lendemain pour découvrir le paysage, beau bien sûr mais rien comparé à la côte ouest apparemment !
Nous avons donc vite pris la route vers la région de Trang pour y rejoindre Marleen et Roderick, des voyageurs en van que les Carmaciu avaient déjà rencontrés !
Finally we're in Thailand ! Mel had really high expectations about this country while Lea was afraid that everything would be crowded with tourists. In the end, having the chance to explore this country (where over 35 millions of tourists visit each year) with our dear rolling home was perfect !
The Betong border crossing went easily. Since a few months, it is written in the law that foreign vehicles are not allowed to enter Thailand but, after filling in the usual forms and had a temporary vehicle import paper (TIP) made (one month to be renewed free of charge), we were able to pass smoothly! We stopped in a restaurant before getting back on the road. For us, the idea was to go up north quite quickly to meet our friends and for Adrian and his family to reach the heaven beaches of the west coast.
Our first stop was the "sea of clouds", a point of view in the Yala region overlooking the mountains, accessible by a very steep road (we finished in 1st gear!). We were told we had to wait until 5am the next day to be able to see the "sea of clouds" and as the parking was really not very "sexy" we preferred to go back on the road and find a beach! It was really nice to be able to follow a vehicle during a long trip without worrying about the GPS! Arrived by night at our spot, we had to wait the next day to discover the landscape, beautiful of course but nothing compared to the west coast apparently!
So we quickly took the road to the Trang region to join Marleen and Roderick, overlanders that the Carmaciu already met!

4 days in paradise
En arrivant au spot choisi par Marleen & Roderick, nous découvrons leur magnifique Mercedes 508 D (modèle que nous voulions de base mais extrêmement couteux en France) et leur faisons la visite de Jack. Après une soirée et une journée passée à papoter et profiter de la plage, nous avons vite compris que notre groupe fonctionnait très bien ensemble ! Nous ne devions rester qu'une journée mais nous avons finalement décidé de rester un peu plus, tristes à l'idée de les quitter. Le lendemain nous sommes partis sur l'île de Kum où nous avons loué des kayaks pour l'après-midi. L'endroit était très peu prisé par les touristes et les plages atteignables en kayak vraiment paradisiaques. Sur le bateau du retour, notre sourire général nous a fait réaliser que nous vivions vraiment la belle vie et que nous nous étions jamais senti aussi décontractés depuis le début de notre périple.
Le lendemain, alors que chacun essayait de convaincre les autres de rester ou de les accompagner à un autre spot, nous avons finalement opté pour monter jusqu'à Krabi pour y rejoindre Roman et Zofia, voyageant en van et moto et passer ainsi une dernière soirée tous ensemble.
Arriving at the spot chosen by Marleen & Roderick, we discover their beautiful Mercedes 508 D (the model we wanted to have but that is extremely expensive in France) and showed them a tour of Jack. After an evening and a day spent chatting and enjoying the beach, we quickly understood that our group worked very well together! We were only supposed to stay one day but we finally decided to stay a little longer, sad at the thought of leaving them. The next day we went to the island of Kum where we rented kayaks for the afternoon. The place was not crowded at all with tourists and the beaches reachable by kayak were really paradise-like. On the way back, our general smile made us realize that we were really living the good life and that we had never felt so relaxed since the beginning of our trip.
The next day, while everyone was trying to convince the others to stay or accompany them to another spot, we finally opted to go up to Krabi to join Roman and Zofia, travelling with a van and motorbike and spend one last evening together.
Petit sprint vers le nord
Racing to the north
Après ces jours extrêmement détendus, cela a été difficile pour nous de nous remettre sur la route même si nous étions contents de retrouver nos amis français et la fraicheur des nuits du nord. Après un arrêt dans un spot avec jolie vue, nous avons continué jusqu'à un autre spot paradisiaque (plage déserte sous les cocotiers) où nous n'avons pu rester qu'une nuit. Après s'être arrêté pour une lessive (1€ les 12kg) et mangé pour 1,2€ à deux (vive les petits bouiboui perdus!), nous avons traversé Bangkok en coup de vent (nous n'avions aucune envie de nous arrêter visiter la capitale) pour nous rendre à Ayutthaya où un défi nous attendait : se prendre en photo devant la tête de Bouddha enracinée.
Arrivés un petit peu trop tard, nous avons préféré attendre le lendemain matin pour s'y rendre à l'ouverture (notre moment préféré). C'était magnifique !
Nous avons conduit 550km jusqu'à Chiang Mai et lendemain nous étions déjà à Pai pour retrouver nos amis !
After these extremely relaxed days, it was difficult for us to get back on the road, though we were happy to meet our french friends and the chilly nights of the north. After a scenic view spot, we continued to another heavenly spot (empty beach under the palm trees) where we could only stay one night. After stoping for a laundry (1€ the 12kg) and ate for 1,2€ for the both of us (we love small villages!), we crossed Bangkok really quickly (we really didn't want to visit the capital city) and we head to Ayutthaya where we had a challenge to achieve : take a photo of us in front of the Buddha face in roots.
As we arrived a little too late, we chose to wait until the next morning to go at the opening (our favorite time). That was magical !
We drove 550km to Chiang Mai and the following day we were already in Pai to meet our friends !
